"Birth Experience"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

Came into the new hospital for Induction 4 days ago now. Fantastic care to begin with the amazing two midwives who helped me deliver my baby. Can't thank them enough.

Unfortunately after the birth I developed a complication and needed treatment. During this time I felt that the level of care was fairly poor and confused. There was a lack of communication between staff, nurses, midwives and Doctors in regards to my treatment. My medical notes were lost and my Partner was never consulted about what was happening to me or why or what course of action was being taken.

The results of this was being kept in hospital longer than necessary and now 4 days on I am still waiting for discharge notes. Due to severe lack of staff we have been waiting for Doctor to discharge us for almost 4 hours and counting.

I originally thought after the tour of the maternity unit, that the new hospital with all its new equipment and ensuite private rooms would be the ideal environment to have a new baby.

However I am now very much regretting my decision to have my baby here and wish I had instead chose the RVI as I had done with my previous baby.

Very disappointed and not the experience I was hoping for. Wouldn't recommend.

Dear Madam,

Firstly many congratulations on the birth of your new baby. I hope that you are enjoying many precious moments as a family.

I am really sorry that your experience with us has been mixed and that you have felt so let down by the care after the birth despite fantastic care to begin with. I am also very sad to hear that this has made you to regret your decision to give birth at The Northumbria.

It feels like the team would really benefit from your insight and I wondered if you would be willing to work with us to help us understand more about what went wrong for you ? My email is annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk

Many thanks for bringing this to our attention – it is important feedback that we are keen to learn from.

Best wishes, Annie
