I recently attended for what should have been routine day surgery. Following minor complications, I was admitted to ward L4 for several nights while further procedures were organised. During this time I witnessed the trying conditions the ward staff have to deal with. Although my symptoms were relatively minor, another patient required almost continuous care, and the nursing staff were absolutely brilliant. They treated the patient in question with great sensitivity, while still being attentive to the needs of all other patients, despite resources being stretched. Indeed, even trivial requests were dealt with very quickly, and always with a friendly and cheerful attitude, when it would have been excusable for a slightly different response.
I am extremely grateful to all staff on ward L4 for their support during my stay. I certainly left Addenbrooke's with a completely different view to that portrayed in the media in recent months!
"Ward L4 - amazing staff!"
