"Ward 4 pontefract hospital"

About: Pontefract General Infirmary

(as the patient),

My mum was recently admitted to ward 4 at pontefract hospital after spending 5 hours in a+e, as she was hooked up to a drip and on oxygen she was given a buzzer in case she required assistance.

during the night she needed the toilet and buzzed for a nurse to which there was no reply. My mum who they now knew was suffering from a kidney infection, tried calling out for a nurse to which she still got no reply ,after an hour and a half of buzzing and calling out for a nurse one finally came and asked "what are you making all that fuss for " .

My mum now doubled up in agony and almost in tears explained to the nurse that she had been trying to get assistance for an hour and a half to which the nurse replied "press your buzzer and see what it does " After finally being taken to the toilet my mum asked if she could be moved to a bed where the buzzer was working and was told to her disbelief that she had to stay where she was because that was her "allocated bed " .After then asking what would happen if she required assistance again and could not get the nurses attention she was told " its not our fault, they are slowly shutting the equipment off because the hospital is closing down ".

How is a hospital supposed to provide patients with the care they need if the equipment required to do this is not available. I think it is a disgrace that a hospital as busy as pontefract is putting its patients at risk like this.

My mum was moved to ward 9 later the next day after complaining to the doctor on rounds but received no apology for the way she had suffered , she has now been in hospital 4 days and has been told nothing about what is happening leaving her feeling vunerable and depressed
