"Good And Bad Experience's In Basildon Hospital"

About: Basildon University Hospital

(as the patient),

I have had quite a few medical procedures and been an in patient at the Hospital, on the whole the majority of nursing staff have been very friendly and helpful and work extremely hard on their wards.

A few years ago I encountered an horrific experience at Basildon Hospital, I was discharged for the weekend (my choice). When I returned back to my ward the curtains were pulled around the bed next to me and a young nurse broke the news that the 21year old girl next to me had passed away early hours of the previous morning.

I was very very upset and distraught, but more disgusted and outraged that she had been left from around 4' 0 clock in the morning until the porters came about 11.00am to take her to the mortuary (seven hours later). On my admission to the ward her dressing gown was thrown on my bed, there was blood on the floor surrounding my cubicle, used equipment, syringes and needles still had blood in them and were on and around my bed.

Nobody had cleaned or changed the linen, fully aware that I was being admitted at 8.00am that morning but more appalling to me was I could actually see through a gap in the curtain this poor girl dead, wrapped in a sheet. Where had the dignity and compassion gone for this girl? She was a human being.
