I had an operation in 2008 and I was transferred to a post-operative ward. I feel I didn't receive basic nursing care such as washing the day after my operation.
A lady suffering from diarrhoea had recently been moved into the ward. I heard this patient admit she should have been on the geriatric ward. Furthermore, I heard her refuse to use the hand wash system available on each bed. I then saw her go to the toilet and left a trail of liquid faeces as she walked on the corridor. This was pointed out to a nurse who then told me that it will be cleaned up when they got some time. The liquid faeces were still there the next day.
I was then later found to be infected with the Noro Virus and that section of the ward was closed. I was told that I could not go into the dining room or go onto the corridor, except for toilet use and my meals would be brought to me.
The next day medication and breakfast had not arrived by 9.30am. When I went into the corridor to ask why I had not had my medication or breakfast, the nurse said there was not time to give breakfast out. I replied that I only wanted some dry cream crackers. The nurse replied I should go get them myself in the kitchen and I did that in spite of the supposed restriction.
I also felt that the two nurses on night duty were uncaring. They accused me of refusing medication which was not true and as I was trying to vomit I was told not to bend over as that was causing me to feel sick.
