"MIU"

About: Lymington New Forest Hospital

Had very nasty fall - slipped on wet floor - cracked shoulder & head on low table and then landed heavily on hand.

Fractured wrist was obvious so only that was dealt with.

Ignored shoulder pain & head bruising(temple & side of head). - only nurse on duty who was pleasant but no doctor to back them up. Currently having more x-rays to determine wrist and shoulder problems.

Also missed broken/fractured limb for member of our family plus 2 fractures missed for a friend - no doctor on duty - only nurse.

Dreadful that no doctor is available at this hospital which is a vital facility for this area. I am really pleased to be able to come to a local facility but MIU is letting people down because they are not supported by a doctor.

Gave up on your eye clinic as my urgent appointments were continually changed and put back by booking clerk without consulting the eye specialist - had 5 changed appointments in one week!!

Cannot fault radiology department - they were pleasant, helpful and efficient.

Thank you for taking the time to post your valuable feedback. We are very sorry to hear about your fall and hope that you are making a good recovery.

We are also very sorry that you were disappointed with the service provided in our Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) which is not an Emergency Department.

The MIU is staffed by experienced Nurse Practitioners who have been trained to see and treat Minor Injuries only.

The nurses only have the support of the medical doctors for presentations such as a Chest pain on site at Lymington New Forest Hospital.

All patients attending the MIU are assessed at Triage and if their presenting condition is not suitable to be seen by the Nurse Practitioner then will be advised to see their GP or to attend the local Emergency Department at Southampton General Hospital.

Regarding the experiences of your family and friends in the MIU and your experience with eye appointments we would welcome the opportunity to discuss these further with you and ask that you kindly contact the Customer Experience Team on 02380 874065 or by e-mail hp-tr.customerexperience@nhs.net

Kind regards
