"Lovely caring staff during colonoscopy"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

I had a colonoscopy at DRI yesterday. I was extremely anxious and upset before and during the procedure due to a very bad experience at another hospital (not related to colonoscopy) but all of the staff were extremely kind and caring throughout. The initial dose of sedation didn't help at all with my anxiety as such a small amount was given but the entonox was very effective in providing relief from discomfort and gave a slightly 'buzzy headed feeling' that got me through, despite being aware of everything that was being said and done. I'm not sure I'd bother asking for the sedation again as the small dose wasn't very effective for me and didn't give the sleepy relaxed feeling described in the leaflet (although that could just be because I was so scared and of course everyone is different!)

I was fully recovered within minutes of leaving the procedure room and haven't had any side effects at all. Thank you to the staff for dealing gently with such a 'difficult' patient and apologies for any unpleasant comments I may have made whilst I was in your care.
