"City Hospital"

About: City Hospital (Birmingham)

My sister is terminally ill and was admitted as emergency. I have slept in a chair next to her bed to ensure she receives the right care, dignity and respect she deserves.

To wait 20 for morphine whilst a nurse finishes texting on a mobile phone, waited 50 minutes for a jug of water, heaven's knows why, then to wash and clean my sister for almost a week before anyone offered to help is disgraceful. Staff are not trained in end of life care and for staff to tell me my sister is demanding when she makes every effort to get to the toilet is beyond belief.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience. Can I urge you to please speak to the nurse in charge as quickly as possible so that you can get your concerns resolved. Your sister can get specialist help from a palliative care nurse if she has not had this already. If you are uncomfortable doing this please contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) with your name and contact details so that we can help to resolve your concerns. You can contact PALS via swb-tr.pals@nhs.net. Thank you,Colin Ovington, Chief Nurse.
