At 16 weeks pregnant my quad blood test came back to say I was in the medium risk category of having a baby with chromosome abnormalities. When the midwife called me to explain this she took her time and explained things fully to me and helped me make a decision. I decided to have an amniocentesis done for my own piece of mind and information was sent quickly to my home email address as they had managed to squeeze me in that same day.
The dr who undertook this procedure was gentle and took the time to reassure me and explain everything to me before he did anything. After the amniocentesis I ended having PPROM and the staff in the fetal medicine department were very prompt in getting me seen by a dr in delivery suite and were very prompt in scanning me the next day.
Thankfully my PPROM was not as bad as first feared but the care I have received from the fetal medicine department has been excellent. They have treated me with the upmost dignity, respect and compassion and have put my mind at rest about my unborn baby's health. They have answered any questions that I have had truthfully and have taken the time to explain things to me to help me make the right the right decisions for my unborn child. If I needed to call them for any reason they were always friendly on the phone and were quick to make me feel like I was not being a burden to them. Nothing has never been too much trouble for them and every time I have visited the department for an appointment they have always come across as caring and professional.
I really feel that this department is a credit to Heartlands Hospital and I hope my thanks and gratitude is passed on to them. In the media today all you hear is bad stuff about the NHS and its staff but this department deserve all the praise in the world.
