"Very appalled with how the hospital treated me"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary

My partner came in to A&E with a stab wound to his hand. He was referred to plastics hand trauma. The staff were very rude and I was not allowed to go and see him instead I was left in a waiting room for over 3 hours. When it was confirmed he needed an operation he was taken to the ward where the nurse rudely said I was not allowed to visit as I was a female. So instead I was left wondering about the hospital for 4 hours while he waited to go into surgery to have a 30 minute procedure. Very appalled with how I was treated as a patient should not be left on there own all day without any family with them. Very disgusted.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on our Plastic Surgery Services, at the RVI. Please accept our apologies that your experience did not meet the standards that we aspire to provide. We will ensure that the issues you have raised are addressed with the staff of both departments, and would be happy to investigate more fully if this would be helpful. In order to do so we would need more specific details about your case. Therefore, if you would like us to follow this up in more detail, please contact the Directorate Manager, Margaret Gray on 0191 282 4551 and we can do a more thorough investigation with the staff who were on duty at the time.
