"Excellent care given in The Mount"

I have been visiting my Mum in the Mount almost everyday for 14wks.Her care has been excellent on ward 1

The Doctors,Nurses healthcare and all related support staff could not have been kinder to my Mum.Nothing has ever been too much trouble,no matter how busy they have been. They have also been so supportive to me and the rest of Mums family. As you can imagine it has been very distressing to have my Mum in hospital in the care of the mental health team for her Dementia.

The situation had become very difficult for Dad at home and he was hiding how hard his life was without opening up and asking for help.Once I became aware we tried very hard to get the help and support at home in the community for Mum but the help was slow in arriving and in the end it came all too late. The day she was offered 3 days day care per week to give Dad a break was infact the day the Psychiatrist decided Mum would be better admitted into hospital.Dad was devasted, they have been married 64years and never been apart.

Mum settled fairly quickly to the life in hospital. There are 2 lounges,a cinema room,a family room and a dining room. There is also a lovely garden which Mum loved for us to sit with her when we went to visit. It was still summer time when she went in and it was winter when she left.So there was always somewhere to go to sit and see her where it was quiet and more private.I must say it could be a very noisey ward at times due to it been an assessment ward for ladies with Dementia.

Mum had her own room and it was always kept so clean and her bedding was changed everyday. They attended to all her laundry. You do need to make sure you label all items of clothing and any other personal things that go into hospital with your loved ones,as unfortunately things can go missing. This is mainly because the ladies with Dementia pick things up and assume they belong to them.

Mum after a couple of weeks was already improving mentally. This was due to the medication having a positive effect and it continues to have that positive effect even now.Unfortunately Mum was also physically unwell with lots of other health issues so she did have her ups and downs. It was because of her other ill health she was an inpatient for so long as we unfortunately needed to find a nursing home so Mum could have the continuing nursing care she needed.

She has now been in a nursing home for a week and her mental health continues to be good and her overall health issues are also stable.

I thank the staff for all they have done for my Mum.

If a member of your family goes into the Mount, the experience at first will be unsettling even distressing but it is a remarkable place for getting your loved ones in a better place mentally,so do not worry put your faith and trust into the expert staff and you too will have a postive result in the end.

Thank you very much for the lovely feedback you have given to the staff on Ward 1 at The Mount.

All of the staff work very hard to provide good care for all that use our services and I am really pleased you found the service so helpful.

I will pass on your positive comments to all the staff concerned.

Thank you once again.

Kind regards
