My dad (aged almost 80) was referred urgently to a urologist (prostate issues) after his GP sat on blood test results (PSA, presumably) for a year! 1st prostate consultation = no conclusion. A biopsy was recommended. A date for his biopsy came through with a bone scan scheduled for 15 minutes later. My Dad phoned to check whether this was possible, which resulted in both procedures being cancelled. Dad was then called in for biopsy this week at short notice. Turned up, waited in his gown, and urologist said they couldn't do it. Meanwhile, Dad was off his warfarin medication!
Now, no biopsy has been done and it hasn't been rescheduled, but a bone scan is to be done next week and an MRI early December. Not sure of the logic of this. The NICE protocol isn't being followed, a far as I can see. http://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/cg175/chapter/1-recommendations. There's been no discussion and no explanation.
Also, my dad doesn't seem to know anything about PSA tests. No one has explained anything to him, and they should have done this!
It's a total farce. He's worried. I'm worried. I'm thinking of making a complaint. What's going on in this hospital?
