"Mums visit to A&E"
About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary Royal Albert Edward Infirmary Wigan WN1 2NN
Following a late evening telephone call from on out of hours doctor who advised my 84 year old mum that her routine blood test that morning revealed she needed an emergency blood transfusion, and who to my disgust, after telling my mum they would inform the hospital of her arrival and book an ambulance, did nothing of the sort and it was left to myself and my very worried mum to contact 111, requesting the booking of an ambulance and ringing the A&E ward to discuss with the sister prior to our arrival the reason for our imminent arrival, I was so very pleased with the kind and carving way my mum was treated.
Firstly thanks to the ambulance person who came, assessed the situation, tried unsuccessfully to establish who the out of hours doctor was to get an update and then drove us to hospital in their ambulance car.
On arrival at A&E the staff were amazing, the sister who remembered me from the earlier call, the nursing staff and the junior doctor.
We were kept completely informed throughout the night. Thank you for making a stressful time easier.
Our pre arranged visit to the triple A dept. today was again excellent, staff superb, and thank you to the kind doctor who was so friendly and made us more relaxed over mums unexpected condition.
Mum had her transfusion this afternoon, back home now and resting I hope.
I will try to get to the bottom of the situation with regard to the on call doctor, even if it is only to ensure no other family is left so totally in the dark after an initial worrying telephone call.
A huge thank you to all the staff in the departments we attended over the past two days, and thank you for looking after mum
