"Following a heart attack I was ..."

About: Fairfield General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Following a heart attack I was recently taken to A & E where the staff went into action like a well oiled machine. My brother, wife and son were allowed to remain with me and we were all kept fully informed and updated constantly.

After being admitted to the Coronary Care Unit my condition deteriorated and I was transferred to Manchester Royal Infirmary at about 11.00 pm.

A team had been assembled and successfully carried out an emergency angioplasty procedure.

I was returned to the CCU at Fairfield the following day where I spent a further three days. The dedication, care, professionalism and communication skills of all the staff in the unit from the domestic staff to the most senior ward sister can only be described as outstanding.

The ward was always clean, the staff always followed the hand cleansing rules and I was always treated with the utmost respect and dignity and was impressed to see the staff still cheerful and friendly even at the end of long and often arduous shift.

I would even describe the food as very good considering the logistics involved in catering for all the diverse dietary requirements and sheer numbers in such a large hospital.

I am not usually given to superlatives but I can only describe my experience as utterly outstanding with the staff going beyond the normal call of duty.

What could be improved

Nothing that I was aware of

Anything else?

Obviously I can only comment on the A & E department and the Coronary Care Unit and had no experience of other wards and units.
