"Care for Wife & Baby during pregnancy & childbirth"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Gynaecology East Surrey Hospital / Maternity

(as a relative),

My wife has spent the last 18 months visiting this hospital many times a month for various reasons associated with her type-1 Diabetes & 2 pregnancies, the first of which unfortunately ended in miscarriage, the second in the birth and subsequent care of my son in the special care unit.

I had never felt hugely comfortable in hospitals, finding them fairly depressing and nerve-wracking places to visit. The last year or so has been an eye-opener to me, allowed me to experience and watch the wonderful care that everybody in East Surrey hospital has given to us, particularly my wife and son, during difficult and worrying periods, when we often felt vulnerable and scared. I cannot thank enough each and every single member of staff, from cleaners and caterers through to Nurses, Midwives, Doctors and Consultants, who looked after my wife and baby during their time in hospital.

You will always have my respect and gratitude.
