"My experience and Journy of my local youth cafe and NHS Fife health drop-in (The Hub)"

About: Fife Community Services / Sexual Health

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I'm 13 years old. I am young however I have matured so much, since my first visit to the youth cafe. I used to be a VERY loud, unbehaved, immiture sometimes even rude girl! I used to never listen to staff or even my teachers at school, alot I was unbehaved at home too. The 'club' as all of the youth cafe workers and me and my friends call it, has helped me grow and mature a lot in only 3 years. I'm sure I started coming in Primary six (I'm in second year now).

I am often 'complemented' as Jen (Hub Nurse) would call it on how much I have changed. I'm now a very good pupil in school, a good helper at home and I help out a lot at the club too. Often I take part in activitys I enjoy at the club, such as: - games /computers, drawing/ art, cooking/ baking, sports/ dancing, ect (we have a very talented and nice woman who is a dance teacher who comes to visit once a month, I think it's a month? . Also I really really enjoy spending time in-side having fun with my friends and having a laugh with the staff. All of the staff are VERY wellcoming, understanding, funny, helpfull and they all do their job BRILLANTLY! (please don't swap them again! )

Our last set of staff were amazing and we all miss them very much, we don't want any new staff! We all have very strong bonds with the staff here at the youth cafe. I am probably closest to Jen (Hub Nurse) and Georgia (Youth Club Staff) is very close to me as well. Jen because she's been here since the start of our youth cafe and has helped me with so much since I have known her, such as: - friends/family, relationships, school, also Jen has supplied me with extra help within my school during the week. Jen has supplied me with information on many things such as sexuality, mental health and coping when someone has died. Georgia as helped me with some problems which had occurred during the club such as me having an argument with a close relative and she helped me by taking me and just simply calming me down, giving me advice and comforted me when I broke down. I don't often cry especially around people I don't trust very much so there's an example of our amazing staff 😀. I'm not too sure on how too end this but I would like to apologize for my spelling (I'm dyslexic) and would like too say a massive thank you too everyone who works with or for the youth cafe, because if it wasn't for this club I would still be an immature little girl and if it wasn't for Jen and her help I could possibly not be here, that's another example of our staff and their help. Jen helped me with self-harm, how to deal with my problems and arranged for me to go to a support service. I now go to a support group/ have 1 on 1 sessions with a girl from prenumbra and I have a diary, also I'm really proud too say I haven't self-harmed in months! Not that long but, go me! I'm proud of my journey and I wouldn't change the club for the world its brilliant, and I'm SOOOOOOO exited for Lazer blast before the holidays, cant wait! So yeah! Thanks ❤️XX

Dear GFnumber1

Thanks for taking the time to tell us a bit about yourself and your excperience of "The hub". I think it is incredibly brave to tell people about yourself but even more incredible that you have so much insight for some one still young. It is great to hear about the way in which developing relationships at the Hub has really helped to support you at what has been a diffciult time for you. Being able to point you in the direction of further support seems to have really made a difference for you. It is also great to hear how well you are doing and I do hope that continues for you.

I will be delighted to mkae sure your comments get back to the staff involved and will also make sure that the Management Team is aware of your feedback and the difference this service has made to you.

Go you indeed!

Thanks for taking the time to share this.

Regards

Louise Ewing
