"A&E visit"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Accident and emergency

(as a student nurse),

Arrived from London to Exeter airport to undertake work. My ears have suffered slightly recently and a recent cold possibly didn't help. On the plane I experienced excruciating pain in my ear, heard a PPP and then could hear nothing. Very painful. Thought it best I go to get it checked before I get back on any plane.

Firstly saw by a nurse and I can only say that attitude was negative and unhelpful. Was advised to get some nasal spray. No explanation of where to get it, I'm a stranger to Exeter. Wasn't happy with this so was put on to another nurse. There were only two people in at the time. Three hours later I left to get a taxi to take me to a chemist. So painful I could not get on a plane back to London. Terrible service and will not be visiting Exeter again.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of your attendance to the Emergency Department at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

I am sorry to hear that you felt that the service you received at your recent visit to the Emergency Department was unacceptable in terms of the wait and the advice that was provided. As such, we are concerned to hear of this and would like to investigate further. If you would like us to do this, please do contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team with your details so that we can look specifically at what happened for you. The PALS team can be contacted on (01392) 402093.
