"My first grandchild was delivered at home"

13 weeks ago my daughter had her first baby; a little girl weighing a tiny 3lb 14oz. She was 37+4days so not really prem.

For the last 8 weeks of her pregnancy she was sent by her midwife (from the gps surgery)every week to St Mary's hospital Manchester as her blood pressure was very high, swelling of the ankles and generally feeling unwell. Once there she was sent home every time saying nothing was wrong.

She started having contractions on the Monday and the hospital said not to come in until she was having them every 3 minutes. This went on until Friday when she was still only having contractions all be it very strong ones every 7 minutes.

By this time she was a total wreck and said to her partner "I don’t care what they said I am going to the hospital.”

Before she even got herself dressed she knew she was going to deliver the baby at home. Within minutes, whilst daddy was on the phone asking for an ambulance with the phone tucked under his chin he delivered my grand daughter into the world.

Why o why don’t they take into consideration the mothers feelings. My daughter knew all wasn’t well but no one took any notice. No 2 pregnancies are the same. By the same rule why did no one ever mention to her in all her ante natal appointments and scans that the baby was not growing as she should have been. Needless to say I think I will only ever be having one grandchild.

She was in special care for 3 weeks and was very poorly at one stage but thankfully is now home and is a massive 9lb 8oz.
