"Level of Care in Ward 8a"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Spinal injuries unit

(as a relative),

My mother was a patient in ward 8a for over 4 weeks before being transferred to ward 54 for rehabilitation.

The level of care was second to none and all the staff from doctors and ward sister to domestic have restored my faith in the caring profession. The ward sister Colette went above and beyond the care of duty in what was a very busy ward with extremely sick patients and kept me informed of all of the treatments my mother was receiving. As my mother had an injury to her spinal cord and had to wear a neck brace, washing her hair was almost an impossibility but with staff like Angela n and a bank care assistant by the name of Amy, this was possible and I can't emphasise enough the difference it made to my mother. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone in ward 8a and keep up the excellent work.

I work in a small team in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde which seeks to involve patients and carers in the work of the NHS. The biggest part of my role is in managing feedback projects across the Board area, one of which is Patient Opinion. It is my job to give our patients and carers the opportunity to give us feedback, and to make sure that this is passed to the right people to help us improve the services we provide.

Dear Rubynicole,

This was such a lovely story to read and I can tell what a difference those staff made to you and your Mum during what I am sure was, and still is, an extremely difficult time. A couple of things that I would really like to highlight from your feedback is the time taken by Colette to keep you updated, regardless of how busy the ward is; and that the staff went that extra mile to do things to make your Mum more comfortable.

I am sure all of the staff on Ward 8A, and in particular Colette, Angela and Amy, will really appreciate you taking the time to leave them such fantastic feedback.

I hope that your Mum's recovery is going well and that she continues to get stronger with her rehabilitation.

With best wishes,

Lorna
