I visited the A and E department with a anaphylaxic situation. I was visiting the area whilst away and had a severe reaction to nuts. On arrival at the hospital we went to the check in, where we waited for about 5 minutes with 2 staff on duty. My friend said very politely that I was having a reaction and needed to be seen. The person very rudely said ambulances take priority. After another 5 min I was checked in with the symptons getting worse, and told to take a seat. After a few min the receptionist shouted across the waiting room for me to use my epe pen myself. My friend and I went in the toilet to stab this in my leg. We then had to sit down again and wait for another 45 min before being seen by a triage nurse who said it would be another 2-3 hour wait before I would see a doctor.
In my local hospital I have always been treated very quickly and professionally. Having a anaphylaxic can be scary and life threatening and I would never return again to this hospital.
