On Thursday 12 Nov 2015 my father was rushed into A & E at around 7.30 in the morning from his care home in Dovercourt with acute breathing difficulties.
I arrived minutes later to find a team of nurses making him comfortable and doing their utmost to ease his distress and commence treatment.
The consultant arrived shortly afterwards and spoke honestly and calmly to me as it was obvious this was a very critical moment.
He had contracted pneumonia and was extremely weak and poorly.
By lunchtime they had got my Father stabilised and comfortable and eased his breathing, but the care and kindness they showed was exemplary.
He was quite improved by early afternoon and was transferred to EAU where I soon after left to collect items he was requesting.
I received a call from the ward early evening to say that he had taken a sudden turn for the worse and I might wish to make my way in.
We arrived and the ward staff considered him too weak to move to a side ward but ensured that our privacy was complete and maintained.
He died peacefully at 21.14.
The whole team there was wonderful and I could not have asked for more.
Such caring and thoroughly professional people with huge hearts.
I cannot praise them enough.
Thank you all!
