"Brain biopsy cancelled"

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital

My wife was due to have a biopsy on her brain on 13th November at Addenbrookes. We arrived at 6.45 for 7.00 am appointment after some time we were informed that there were no operations until after 1.00pm as there was an audit taking place in the theatres and staff did not know in advance. My wife was told she was second on the list we waited until 5.15pm before I asked how much longer it would be only to be told that the operation was cancelled due to a lack of anaesthetists. Also it would not happen for over a month. Having not eaten for 20 hours and been without a drink since 10 am my wife was understandably distraught to hear that her wait to find out what the unexplained abnormalities on her brain were would not be investigated until another time. Surely this sort of thing should not happen in this day and age at a Hospital like Addenbrookes.

I am very sorry to hear about the problems with communication and subsequent cancellation of your wife's procedure.

We would be pleased to investigate the circumstances and respond to your wife personally: I would be grateful if you could contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01223 216756 or email pals@addenbrookes.nhs.uk.
