"Patient on Ward 18"

About: Scunthorpe General Hospital

My mother Margaret Kemp was admitted to Ward 18, suffering from secondary breast cancer. Sadly she passed away on 11th November. The standard of nursing and care given to her was exceptional. The professionalism, dedication, care and compassionate treatment by all staff on the Ward was a great comfort to me and my family. We stayed by mums bedside for six whole days, so we were able to see at first hand such dedication and compassion by the nursing staff. I would like to personally thank the Staff Nurse who gave me lots of advice, cuddles and kept me fully informed of what mums progress was. The Staff Nurse also provided the family with food vouchers for the canteen and free car parking. The Health workers were amazing as well and kept us constantly supplied with tea, coffee and biscuits. In particular I would like to thank one member of staff who was so passionate about their job and always had a smile and a chat for us. Towards the end of mums time on the ward another member of staff also impressed us very much with their enthusiasm, passion and dedication.....again they had a very pleasurable personality and a big smile and chat for us. Whilst keeping vigil at mums bedside through the night ,and being at my lowest ebb,I was reassured, comforted, informed and cuddled by nurses. On the night mum passed away a nurse was at hand to offer caring compassionate and loving words to me and my family which we will never forget. At times when it seems the NHS is constantly criticised...my experience of the service provided at Scunthorpe General was that I was very very impressed at every aspect of care that the Hospital provided. A million thanks to all the dedicated and caring staff who looked after mum.

Dear Gillian, thank you so much for your kind words at what must be a very difficult time for you and your family. Your feedback has been shared with the teams involved in your mother's care and they will hugely appreciate it. It's always good to hear how our staff have been able to offer comfort and support to relatives in their time of need. Best wishes, Sarah Mainprize
