I decided to stop my contraceptive pill as I was struggling with the side effects and attended one of the daily walk-in centres the same day to discuss alternative methods. I was seen within 20 minutes and had a very thorough and reassuring chat with one of the doctors who was more than happy to answer all of my questions. We decided to go ahead with the Jaydess IUS coil and they booked me in an appointment just two days later.
I attended the centre for the fitting feeling anxious, but this was quickly alleviated upon meeting the experienced doctor who was fitting my coil. They went over the details, addressed my concerns and escorted me to the treatment room to get changed. Shortly after a chaperone came in to see how I was, who was extremely kind and did a good job of keeping me talking to take my mind off the procedure throughout. They were extremely reassuring, holding my hand when I was in pain. When the procedure was done, they both insisted I relax for 10 minutes and brought me some water and Ibuprofen.
I decided to sit in the waiting area for 10 minutes until the abdominal cramping eased - in this time the receptionist came over to check that I was okay and would be okay to get home as I was on my own.
Overall I felt incredibly safe and well cared for on my visit. All the staff I have encountered have been extremely accommodating and welcoming. With some GPs etc I have got the impression that I was being rushed or being made to feel like my questions were silly or irrelevant and this was absolutely not the case at the Wolverton.
I can't thank all the staff enough for their support - this was the first invasive procedure I've had done and they did an exceptional job at making it as comfortable as possible for me. Would highly recommend.
