"Waiting in the discharge suite"

About: Royal Preston Hospital

The so called discharge lounge at Royal Preston Hospital (RPH) is appalling! It is a make-shift environment, unpleasant, loud and resembling a cattle market. For someone vulnerable to infection I felt concerned waiting for medication from the pharmacy in that area for nearly 2 hours. It really needs greatly improving, the staff were obviously trying hard in a terrible environment. If I am unfortunate enough to need to be admitted to RPH again I will request not to be made to wait in that area again.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. The Discharge Lounge was developed to enable patients to be cared for in an environment appropriate to their needs whilst awaiting their discharge process to be completed, thus freeing up an in-patient bed and enhancing patient flow. However, it was extremely disappointing to hear of your experience in that area as we do fully appreciate that is not conducive to the provision of high quality care or a good patient experience. Please be assured that your feedback has been shared with relevant managers to enable them to consider your points and to see what can be done to improve the environment for the benefit of future patients.
