"Referred as an emergency by GP"

About: Royal Gwent Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

My GP admitted me to D5 West due to a kidney infection. He rang the ward ahead and gave me a letter to hand to them. When I got there, they took bloods and inserted a cannula as I needed intravenous antibiotics. They said a doctor would see me shortly. After waiting an hour, they said I was in the wrong area and needed to go to MAU, even though my GP had organised admission to D5 West.

Can't fault the care given by Drs and nurses, but I feel that the whole system is chaotic. MAU is an absolute shambles in my experience. The seating area is an uncomfortable place for sick patients. No patient confidentiality, due to patients being spoken to in the seating area by nursing staff. No nursing staff monitoring sick patients in seating area, whilst they were waiting to go to the ward. I was there all day and no nursing assessment done on me, and I received no identity wristband. This is really unacceptable.
