I was very fortunate to have a dual chamber ICD fitted at Duchy hospital. From the moment I arrived until discharge the following day the care was exemplary. Everything was explained to me in a way in which I was able to make informed decisions about my surgery and also to have 100% confidence in everybody carrying it out. I felt that I was an important 'customer' and not someone to be dealt with and got rid of as soon as possible. The receptionist that I met upon entry who accompanied me to my room, the nursing staff who prepared me for the surgery and regularly monitored me afterwards, the radiographer who explained their role, the surgeon who explained what was going to be involved in the placement of the device and who actually carried it out and the theatre nursing staff, the staff who took orders for my food and delivered it to me and the technician who tested everything before I was discharged : each and every one of them, and I apologise if I have left anyone out, were a real credit to their chosen profession and operated as a cohesive team for the benefit of the patient - I wish to thank you all. I know that if I have to return to Duchy hospital for any follow that you will all be there for me again and this gives me a great sense of confidence for the future.
