"Husband rushed in with chronic kidney/UTI problems"

About: Leicester General Hospital

My Husband has had an absolute nightmare and it still continues.

On Friday we were referred to the hospital by his GP due to extreme pain, vomiting, urination problems and chronic oral thrush.

We arrived at Ward 26 assessment at 1030hrs.

We were eventually seen by a Health Care Assistant, who was a star.

Then after the consultation we had to wait more.

My husband’s pain increasing.

I had to keep nagging someone to give him pain relief after about 3 hours he eventually got some, but the pain had become so bad that it only took it down to an 8 out of 10! we still had to wait.

They took blood tests but said that the results would not be back for a while.

We waiting another 3 hours.

By this time my Husband is in extreme pain, feeling sick and not in a good way.

Eventually the registrar came round. Confirmed that no scans would be done, they would do them as an outpatient.

Great - not! So the doctor said to keep taking the antibiotics which were not working which is why we were in there and go home.

A prescription would be done for two pain relieve suppositories - were they ready by the time we needed to go - no.

So got home at around 7pm.

So I had to drive back to the hospital and pick up the suppositories.

I got back there at around 8.30pm.

Only to find one of the doctors and them say that they were so glad I had come back as his white blood cell counts were through the roof and he needed to be admitted. The doctor said no rush as they were struggling with beds!

Really! So I drove home again (it take be about 30 mins to get home each time). Got home, had to get my Husband up, which was not good as he was feeling very sick.

Organized a taxi for around 10pm.

We had to stop twice as he was vomiting.

Eventually got to the hospital around 1045pm. Only to be told we had to wait for a bed as they knew nothing about him coming back in.

His pain at this point was increasing and at a 10 out of 10.

Eventually he got a bed but no pain killers.

He was sick three times again.

They gave him an antisickness and oramorph but that came straight back up.

This is now around midnight.

The doctor came round to see him, saying they did not know what the problem was.

My Husband has MS as well, which is in itself is extremely frightening and can be debilitating. I could not leave him.

If I had not been there he would have been vomiting with no assistance and would have been ignored.

When the doctor came back again about 1.5 hrs later they said they would move him up to Ward 26 and give him an IV for the fluids he had lost.

So at this point, there is no medication for his infection.

The doctor starts saying your symptoms mean we cannot pinpoint what it is (but wait for this one) but we think it is XX.

I don’t want to say what they said but it was totally uncalled for.

Someone with MS suffers from depression, extreme anxiety etc.

i left him at 0230hrs hrs on the Saturday morning or getting home around 0300hrs.

- This saga continues.
