With plans made already to come into hospital on Friday to have a pessary and be induced and have waters broken which I really didn't want, contractions fortunately kicked in after my membrane sweep as I was eight days overdue and had some slight bleeding. Unfortunately I was only three cms dilated however the midwife at that time after consulting with the sister let me stay. I arrived at around 3.30 am and during this time the midwife ran me a much welcomed bath and was very gentle in their approach. Their shift finished at 7 where an amazing midwife along with a student midwife took over.
They were both incredibly understanding in my apprehension to be induced and fortunately my mucus plug came away shortly after during which time they agreed with doctors to have me stay in the sanctuary which is what I wanted. They both listened to my wishes and were incredibly accommodating and laid back with allowing me to make decisions, something I didn't feel I received during my visit the day before when having my membrane swept and being spoken to by a medic on site. My main purpose was to commend you on having staff like these who were absolutely amazing, encouraging when I needed them to be and kept me informed with what would happen next.
With shortages of staff I only hope that all mums to be get to share the same experience I was fortunate to have with these two absolutely amazing midwives!
