"Carers are a good support but can be in too big a rush"

About: East Ayrshire Council Care At Home & Housing Support Service (North Locality)

(as a service user),

It can be difficult at home. I don’t get sleeping. My husband has dementia and often gets up in the middle of the night to put his clothes on to go to work. I need to get up and talk him out of it.

We have carers coming four times a day to help us both. Most of them are good but sometimes you get ones who aren’t. The service really makes a difference to us. I also have good family support, with people around who take me out.

The carers in the morning are good. The best carers are the ones who properly clean the kitchen, some of them don’t clean the surfaces.

Some of the carers are in too big a rush, they are too quick in and out of the house. The carers can also be called away to help somewhere else (if someone who needs help is a double). When this happens a different carer will come to us but we don’t know who is coming.

The carers at home are a good support. I am grateful for what we have.

Response from Catriona Barr, Team Manager, Community Care - North Locality, East Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership

Dear shopper

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about the support you receive from carers. It is nice to note that the morning carers are good and the support you receive makes a difference and if you don't mind I will ensure that the carers receive this positive feedback.

I also note that you feel that, at times, some of the carers are rushed and do not have enough time. I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you about the support you receive and my contact details are; Catriona Barr Team Manager (01563-554268) and it would be very helpful if you would contact me. Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you.
