About: Eastbourne District General Hospital

I had the misfortune of seeing a particular Consultant.

They humiliated me in front of their trainee, telling me that I'm overreacting regarding my condition and said I must have mental health issues. This made me cry and instead of offering a tissue, they and said trainee just sat gawping at me like I was their entertainment for the day.

They said that they couldn't help me regarding my condition but their colleague in a London NHS trust could. I travelled to London for my appointment but said colleague was confused as to why I'd been sent out of my local trust to them and returned home disappointed without receiving any treatment.

I wrote to the Consultant asking why they did this to me but no response.

I find it shocking that a medical professional would behave in this way and even more shocking that NHS allow this behaviour from its staff.

Dear Ellena

We're deeply concerned to read your posting about your clinic consultation with Ophthalmology at Eastbourne DGH, and what subsequently happened. Clearly and understandably, this caused you much personal distress.

It may be helpful for you to discuss everything with our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS), they will be able to give you advice about what to do, if you would like things looked into, in more detail.

If you would like to do this, PALS can be contacted on 01323 435886 or by email at esh-tr.PALSE@nhs.net.

We apologise for the fact that your experience was poor and we hope that you feel able to contact PALS.
