"Suspected pneumonia was not detected"

About: Rochdale Infirmary Rochdale Infirmary / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My grand daughter is 22months old and was taken to Rochdale Accident & Emergency with pains and a temperature. A triage nurse took her temperature and we were told to strip her clothes off and wait. So we waited and waited. All types of people came and went but no other children. After 2 hours I went to ask why we were left for so long and I was told we were on the list to be seen. My grand daughter was now upset as we were putting cold compressions on her forehead every five minutes. 3 hours later she started collapsing and I went to the front desk for them to get a doctor straight away. The nurse could not find the doctor and I felt this was unprofessional. I burst in to the doctors who were all stood discussing something and I screamed at them to see to my granddaughter. They were shocked and didn’t know we were waiting. I rushed my grand daughter into a cubicle and a doctor came and looked at her. They told me her temperature was sky high and that she needed treatment, which I thought was an obvious observation. I told him that I thought this should have been done 3 hours ago. My poor little girl; she had a septic throat, chest infection, headache, stomach pains and she was left for 3 hours. I hope the nurses don’t get ill. She was kept over night and the next day at 10 o’clock in the morning we were given no breakfast, no drink. You could buy things off the trolley but I didn’t think this was right. We were sent home with medication for my grand daughter. No tests were done or any x-rays. My grand daughter has now been rushed to Hope hospital as she lives in Worsley. I was looking after her in Rochdale when I had to take her into hospital. She was seen to promptly, examined, x-rayed and was home in 1 and a half hours. She has suspected pneumonia, a very bad chest infection and high temperature. She is now on the correct medicines and is being monitored. Hope Hospital has given us hope and I recommend it to anyone.
