"Delays getting hospital bed"

About: Tameside General Hospital / General medicine

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public. We have their details and will forward any comments to them. They said…

My wife had a fall from her bed – she was catching up on her sleep. Ambulance services came within about 15 minutes. Could not find a pulse, kept checking for one. In time they decided to take her to Tameside Hospital – this part was quite good.

She spent approximately 44 days in hospital and died there in January. I had had a bed set up at home for her to be cared for from the next day.

When we arrived at hospital it seemed a long time before we were seen and got a bed for her. She was on ward 45. I think the care can be improved with more communication.
