I'm currently 4 days post procedure of a microdiscetomy. I have no complaints of the procedure or consultant as this was brilliant. My problem is after surgery I had to ask for water as non was left available in my room. I then had to wait over an hour after buzzing to receive help to use the bathroom. The following day I overheard staff referring to me as the nhs patient (which is true I was an nhs patient) but all patients wether nhs or private should receive equal treatment regardless in my eyes. I was given a back brace which I have to wear whilst walking and sitting for up to 6 weeks after the procedure which was to small for me which the physio themselves said and a nurse but said it was the largest size they had in. I was still rather out of it when staff told me of my medication and how to use the injections I have to do at home so could not remember and when a family member later asked for advice when I was discharged they were told they could not help as my files had been logged away. I did not feel right or ready to go home the following day as it was late evening I came round from the procedure and was discharged early lunch the following day, when I expressed this to a member of staff I was told another patient who'd had the same procedure the same day as myself was being discharged so so could I. Also this day I was only offered a sandwich for lunch nothing else even though I hadn't had a proper meal for almost 48hours. When discharged I again asked about the back brace I have to wear and with it being to small what would be happening about getting a larger one I was told they had not been informed so would need to wait until Monday to call the physio department to sort it out. On the same day as being discharged I ended up in NEMS and from them sent to a and e with severe pains raised temp sickness and was told in there opinion I was discharged to early. Following this I still called the woodthorpe physio department and asked about sorting out a larger sized back brace as already I had gone 3 days without wearing one when I should be to be asked if the reason I needed to wear one is because of my weight which I find quite insulting as I know myself I'm overweight but I'm certainly not the largest person out there being a size 18/20 and that they weren't sure they could get a larger size but someone would soon get back to me. I'm still waiting on that phone call. And still unable to wear a back brace to aid my recovery.
