Warning for patients with ICDs/pacemakers who rely on Home Monitoring:
I used to be a patient at the Heart Hospital and was transferred to Barts Heart Centre in spring 2015. I have an ICD which needs to be checked every 3 months. This happens remotely through a home monitoring device.
I’ve noticed that the scheduling and checking of these remote readings has become completely unreliable since the formerly excellent Pacing Team from the Heart Hospital moved to Barts and merged with the Barts Pacing Team.
Remote readings have seized to be scheduled effectively and it is almost impossible to contact the team by phone.
The only safe thing to do, at the moment, is to go to the Pacing Clinic in person, especially as the Technicians are actually very helpful, kind and understanding and do everything to keep ICDs/pacemakers and patients safe – as long as you see them in person!
