"Lack of response"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

I find it easy to see why this hospital is listed as " requires improvement" and has a red flag against " responsiveness".

Having had a consultation over MRI results showing a growth and been told "they would keep an eye on me" and call me for another scan in 6 to 12 months time I was concerned as I heard nothing. I finally went to my own doctors with numbness and pins and needles in my legs, (could be caused by pressure on a nerve). My doctor checked my records and expressed surprise that I had not been contacted as their notes said they would be contacted in 3 months from the original appointment. This was 16 months later!

My practice contacted Hull and together with my local hospital organised another MRI. The results were sent to Hull and I waited, and waited and waited. 8 weeks later I rang the hospital and left a message with the consultants secretary. I'm still waiting for a reply.

I then investigated and rang another person on my appointment letter. At first they could not find my file despite having their reference number and claimed that the results have not arrived. Then it became, why hadn't my doctor contacted me. On finding them l was told they had "had a meeting" and as the growth had been stable for 20 months they would probably call me for another scan in 2 years. I was assured that the consultant would write to me but again I am still waiting.

Interestingly I phoned my own doctors on the same day as ringing Hull and they had received an electronic message just after the scan saying that no further action needed to be taken.

This does not inspire me with confidence.
