"Outpatients Chester Wing. As a ..."

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Outpatients Chester Wing. As a patient I was treated well. However, what a difference that patients receive when admitted. As a visitor to my gran in hospital saw this hospital in a new light.

What could be improved

Staff nurses who thought they were too 'grand' to get a bed pan, ignoring buzzers so can continue chat about going to pub, telling elderly patients to soil themselves instead of getting a bed pan, all nursing staff helping one patient and her family to cook individual meals, cleanliness - a pepper sachet on floor for FIVE DAYS.Infection Control no better HCA did not wash hand after coughing into them before pouring milk to another patient. I could go on and on and on about this ward. Not telling LIES to the family...

Anything else?

Nursing staff need to tell all family members same details. As I work during day could only visit on evening but my uncle could only visit days. Visiting sorted we thought. However, nursing staff would tell him details about her condition and he would phone me so I was aware when went in for visiting - the same nurse would then cotradict information. Nursing staff need more training. Asked to see sister - told off sick. Gran in hoospital 6 wks then discharged - no better - out of hospital 2 days then readmitted. Been in 1 day will our experience this time - only time will tell. Might ask to see MATRON this time. No confidence No patience with the system.
