"Disabled parking?"

About: King's Mill Hospital

Well I attended last Tuesday with suspected meningitis and was very sick, am also a disabled adult with social impairment and need a adult with me when I go out.

So the gentleman who came with me is mobility impaired and has limited walking ability. Where are the disabled bays that were once near the entrance. Boarded up unusable. So he had no choice but to park in a small hatched area next to the doctors bays. As he cannot walk any further than from there. Even that distance caused pain and distress. So imagine when he returned to the car with me having to stay in the dept overnight and he had to go home. He wasn't allowed to stay with me. And then found he has been issued a parking ticket. And the security aren't interested at all on it. They then had to remove a barrier someone had placed next to his car. Obviously to take pictures of his car there so close he couldnt get in the car....would I use this hospital again no or recommend it no. It's disgusting when your seriously ill to have to then deal with a parking ticket. Where is the compassion we weren't in the emergency area on the right and caused no trouble to any other vehicles. When it's dark you can't even see the area is hatched with a red diagonal line. Seriously upset with this hospital. Really is appalling

Dear Charlotte,

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience in our hospital and we are sorry your experience wasn't a good one. We have passed on your concerns to our security and car parking team for comment.

They stated that they are acting in an issuing capacity only and under the instructions laid out in the car parking policy. As such any vehicle parked in a crossed hatched area will receive a ticket. Tickets are issued in this area solely for the reason that by having vehicles parked in this area impedes the emergency ambulances ability to turn round.

All tickets that are issued are done so against the vehicle and the way in which it was parked. It is not in any way directed against a person, as we do not know the circumstances behind why the individual parked in such a way.

Under the circumstances outlined in your review, if this notice was appealed it should be overturned.

I hope this clarifies the situation, and if you wish to comment further, please email our Patient Experience Team at PET@sfhft-tr.nhs.uk who will be able to discuss directly.

Kind regards,

Communications Team, Sherwood Forest Hospitals.
