"A&E eye department"
About: New Cross Hospital New Cross Hospital Wolverhampton WV10 0QP
My Daughter visited A&E eye Department on 10th September in Wolverhampton New Cross and was seen by Sister in charge as she had been having trouble with a puffy eye lid.
She had previously visited her GP twice and the A&E department in Stafford who could give no reasonable explanation as to why it kept swelling. The GP was helpful in prescribing antibiotic cream but advised if it kept affecting my Daughter to attend A&E. She firstly went to Stafford where the Doctor she saw examined her eye but could see nothing wrong and advised if she was not happy with their diagnosis to go to the specialist department @ Wolverhampton A&E.
The Sister was wonderful and diagnosed a small blocked gland.
They advised steam treatment and to keep using the antibiotics. They advised that if it persisted to re-visit her GP who could then refer her back to the eye hospital to have the gland unblocked. They advised she would send a discharge letter to her GP.
On 30 October she visited the GP again (she was not seen by her Dr but by a clinical advisor?)
They refused to refer as they could not see anything on examination of her eye lid and as there was no letter on file.
They were very blunt with my Daughter and told her is she wanted a referral she would have to go back to the A&E again and start the process again but as they could see nothing wrong they were unwilling to refer.
As it was late on Friday evening I decided to get my Daughter to call the A&E the next day to see if they could track down the letter.
We were put through and the Sister was again on Duty.
They looked up my Daughters record, confirmed they had sent the letter to her GP via e-mail but said they would print off a hard copy and post out.
I would just like to commend the Sister for theirr professional service and consideration.
They are a credit to the NHS - kind, considerate, helpful.
Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the person at my GP practice although I must state that my actual GP is fantastic.
Hopefully once the letter arrives at my Doctors they will decide to do the right thing and make the referral.
