My Dad was diagnosed with a smallish tumor in his pancreas at the end of September. He had jaundice and spent time in the Queen's Medical Centre on ward F21 where he was eventually fitted with a stent to help the bile flow properly and to relieve the pressure caused by the tumor whilst waiting for the next step.
Care on this ward was great, all nurses were very professional and attentive. He was released the morning after the stent was inserted and enjoyed 10 days of good health and happiness.
He was told his tumor was operable and that he would receive a date for his operation in due course.
He was readmitted to D57 ward when he began vomiting blood and had a high temperature 10 days later. He was then transferred to ward F22. It then took 10 days of repeated bouts of chronic sickness and bleeding, many transfusions etc, to finally detect and stop the bleeding.
My Dad's health has deteriorated. I'm so worried that they are taking so long to resolve this problem (they still haven't confirmed what further action they will take to assess whether the stent has migrated or is infected) that his chance of having an operation on this tumor will pass.
We were so lucky to have caught it relatively early, it would be terrible if we let this chance pass just because things moved so so slowly.
The doctors and nurses have all dealt with my dad in a polite, caring manner, but I just hope they are able to move things forward now before things get worse.
I wish I knew who to talk to to get some answers.
