"I was admitted to the day ward ..."

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted to the day ward at 10.00 am without any waiting around.

I was given tea and toast after my surgery and didnt have to wait long for my discharge advice.

What could be improved

Although my surgery was to be performed as a local in the afternoon the ward nurses decided I should be nil by mouth. By 12 midday I was extremely hungry. I still kept drinking my water, although the nurses said that I shouldnt, but couldnt take my anti inflammatory meds for my arthritus because they had to be taken with food. I was told that the Drs would come to see me on the ward and I could ask for something to eat then but they never did come.

The Trust has noted the positive comments and the concerns you raised. We take concerns raised very seriously as we have high expectations regarding the standards of care our patients experience. Managers have reiterated our expected standards of care and guidance regarding preoperative fasting. Thank you very much for taking the time to provide this feedback
