"Good delivery experience but poor post natal care"

About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

Had an elective c section due to previous section. My experience of antenatal apts was very good - the department seemed very organised and caring. Experience of the c section was a positive as it could be and I felt the team were experienced and there was a good calm environment. My experience at Frimley was let down, however by the postnatal ward which felt over stretched and the team appeared stressed and burned out. There were a few very good and experienced midwives but some of the team, particularly the night staff were very abrupt, uncaring and as if they would rather not be there. they seemed keen to discharge people asap though the bays were not totally full.

I felt quite left to 'get on with it' despite being in a lot of pain. Several team members seemed burned out and had little empathy. I felt somewhat bullied to get up sooner than I felt comfortable and that I was making a fuss to buzz for help in the night after having had the c section. Awareness of the emotional needs of mothers appeared limited as I saw several other mums in a tearful state and feeling as if they couldn't ask for help in the night.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback following your recent stay in Maternity.

I am sorry that we let you down after the birth of your baby.

We would really like to look into what happened so we can learn from your experience and make it better for other mums in the future.

I would be really grateful if you could contact Adrienne Price, Head of Midwifery on adrienne.price@fhft.nhs.uk with more details of your stay.

Thank you for your positive feedback on the antenatal team and your c section team.

Best wishes and congratulations on the birth of your new baby

Claire Marshall
