Mum was admitted with fluid on the lungs which was remedied and she then went onto an end of life plan. While I think we need to have a grown up debate about what this reAlky means, I can't fault the hospitals care. We went from private ward to main ward and then to private side room again but never felt we were lost in the system. Mum had been in darlington with a broken femur and while the care there was fine I am so relieved she was in the friarage for her final days. The atmosphere of a community hospital cannot be quantified but it is important. We felt cared for and comforted that the care we and mum received was amazing and made our last days with her bearable. The cottage in the car park was invaluable: if you doubt our words just read the guest book in there. I can't recommend this hospital highly enough and at a time when they are closing wRds at my own local community hospital in Barnard castle, it is more important than ever that we recognise the value of our community hospitals.
