I had a fall in 2014 and broke 3 fingers on my right hand.
I am 68 years old so it was quite traumatic for me.
My husband took me to A & E and I was seen almost immediately, I was X-rayed twice, before and after the plaster was put on up to my elbow.
One of my fingers had come out of its socket and the nurse sorted that out. I was in terrible pain and they did everything possible to make me comfortable, they were a very competent nurse and I wish that I had got their name at the time, but it all happened so quick and I was not really with it at the time.
After a a few weeks I was sent to Occupational Therapy Department, after my plaster was taken off. I was very nervous as my fingers were very stiff after having been plastered up. The member of staff was absolutely amazing and was very caring, I was quite scared as my fingers were stiff and swollen. I was taken to the department where they could help me get my fingers working again. After some weeks I was then told I was being transferred to the workshop! I was so nervous, and wondered what it would be like. I absolutely loved it, my mentor was brilliant. They helped me make a plaque with a turtle engraved on it, Which I did the engraving and varnished it, I also made a bird table and two outside benches. I did not want to leave, I was there for just over a year and I cannot thank my mentor enough for everything they have done for me. Sorry this is so long but I want people to know that this hospital is good and staff do care about its patients. Thank you to everyone who helped me.
