On the evening of Friday 23rd October, I booked my Dad into the Emergency Department due to feeling unsteady on his feet, concerned that he may have had a stroke. Our first thoughts on arrival seeing that the waiting room was very busy being a typical Friday that we would be here for a very long time. However I couldn’t have been more wrong as from arrival he was assessed and informed from the beginning that it was very busy, but they will do their best to get him seen as quickly as possible. My Dad is known for laughing, Joking and occasionally moaning which tells us that he is well but on this occasion we could see how concerned he was as he was quiet. This was until he met and spoke to the staff from ED, from the assessment nurse, receptionist, doctor, porter and consultant, as they all played a part in making him smile again with great reassurance and communication. After all the scans, bloods and x-rays he was told he had an infection and could go home. This was the perfect outcome to potentially being one of the worst days of our lives and feel we owe the Emergency Department a huge thank you.
