After attending A&E for our 18 month old after a facial laceration, we were referred to Durham to an appointment with Plastics the next day at 10:30am for what we thought was going to involve the laceration being glued. Personally this in itself was disappointing because surely a facial laceration should be dealt with as soon as possible!
We then attended Durham the next day & asked if we had any paperwork, which we didn't. Then after a consultation with the plastics surgeon we were informed our son would need general anesthetic and stitches. However, we weren't infromed that this was a possibility and to keep him nil by mouth just incase. So, we are now waiting yet another 24 hours for our sons face to be stitched up. I am absolutely fuming that an 18 month old has been left with an open wound on the face for 48 hours with just a dressing over the top!
No doubt the scar that he will have will be worse than it would have been if he was seen to straight away!
"Failure to inform us to make child nil by mouth..."
