"Blood on the floor of GP blood test unit"

About: North Middlesex Hospital

I went to the GP blood test unit today and I was shocked to see there were blood drops on the floor leading from the cubicles through the whole aisle to the exit. I acknowledge that accidents can happen, but something like that is a serious health hazard for patients. I had to bring my toddler son and I'm just really grateful I kept him in his buggy so that he didn't get in contact with it. many people walked through it without noticing and it just got worse. Eventually some nurse noticed and wiped the drops with wet wipes.

Upon seeing the blood, I got really dizzy and shaky, but the member of staff who took my blood samples couldn't have cared less about my apparent distress. It's shocking to see how people who should know better put their patients at risk - in my opinion simply inexcusable.

Thank you for your feedback.

It is unfortunate that blood spillage was not noticed earlier and reported to staff who would have been able to arrange the area to be cleaned.

As you clearly state some people are affected by seeing blood but unfortunately on this occasion the spillage had not been reported to staff. I am the head of GP blood services, nkafkarkou@nhs.net, and will be sharing your comments with the team.
