On the 24th October I was taken to the A&E Dept. as I had a very bad flair up of my gall bladder, after a very long wait I was admitted to a ward...having been told that possibly
Monday or Tuesday I would be operated on. On the ward however was I was informed it would be on the Sunday, I was prepped and ready ( nil by mouth etc.),on the Sunday however a consultant came into my room with they asked me to lay on the bed, their hand was reaching out to press around my stomach ,when their aide or assistant read out some details, they just walked from the bedside, with the words no this is not being done to day, I just said to the consultant, well I was told it would be today...after a few exchanges of words, the consultant then said to me " you would rather see or let a more serious patient die, so you can have your operation ",how dare the consultant make that remark on my character , when they do not even know me. I was told later in the day that I would be operated on, so prepped and made ready, Monday the 26th came, and just waited, I asked the nurse what was happening ,she kindly rang to find out where I was on the list, and was told that I was the next one, only to be told after a long wait by a junior doctor that it had been cancelled...the junior doctor then asked if I would prefer to speak to the consultant, I confirmed this, and once again I had to face this very passive/aggressive consultant, after our conversation, they then went to a public area and had a conversation with the general manager about me in my hearing , and anyone else who was about, when they finished the phone call, I asked the consultant if I can also have a comeback with the general manager on this but instead of the manger seeing me first, I was told that the consultant and manger were talking, but unfortunately my transport had arrived, so did not meet the manager, to put my side of the problem. I was also informed by the consultant, I could wait up to four or five days for the operation, I was not prepared to go through the getting ready stage, only to be told the operation would not take place.... on my discharge letter it stated I opted out, not the case I had no choice in the matter, my feeling was that the consultant by choice would have kept me waiting, as for myself still in discomfort and saddened by the fact that a professional person in healthcare would speak to patient in that way.
