My son attended the hospital this weekend (24 - 25 October) for day surgery. His operation included a fast from 7.30 on 23 October prior to a morning admission. His operation was put back and put back until he finally went in late afternoon, having fasted for nearly 21 hours. He was discharged within 90 minutes of the operation with little advice on dealing with any post operative issues and within an hour was heading back as the stitches broke and caused him to bleed out over his bed. He attended A&E on Saturday night with all of the grimness that involved and was finally discharged with no gauze or surgical tape and, once again, no advice from a disinterested staff. Clearly the clinical decision making is based on money not need and is a clear example of the problems that bedevil this hospital where too many managers and not enough staff cause confusion and don't always look after the best interests of the patients.
"Clinical decision making flawed"
