"my mother was taken to a/e department ..."

About: The James Cook University Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

my mother was taken to a/e department she had a head injury

i think the staff in a/e are not bothered about older people in this department .

i think she should have had a xray .

no pain killers were given to her .

i think the trust are not bothered about older people at all .

the only thing i would say is that the nurse how looked after my mother was very good.

What could be improved

i think old people should be seen straight away

given medication .

have xrays if the have injurys

I am sorry you feel your mother did not receive the appropriate care and treatment from the Accident and Emergency Department. Should you wish to discuss your concerns further please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on Freephone 0800 0282451.

Care of the older person is of paramount importance to the Trust and the A&E Department and all patients are assessed for the need for any investigations. It would not be good practice to conduct unnecessary tests, however, I am sincerely sorry that your mothers’ pain was not addressed on this occasion.
